One: Time is a gift we are given each morning we rise.

All: It is our responsibility to use it wisely.

One: It is also our responsibility to use it gently.

All: To be, rather than always “to do.”

One: We are human creatures

All: and we come to this place to honour our Creator.

One: Come, sit, listen, and most importantly, BE in this place.

Gracious God, there are times we feel weak, when we feel that we have not lived as godly people, times when we feel we deserve your anger, times when we know we betray and hurt others. Help us to overcome our suffering and make amends for the suffering we cause others, by the power of your Holy Spirit. In silence, we bring to you our own confessions and our hope for a new beginning. (a time of silent confession) Amen.

Message: One Thing at A Time / Luke 10:38-42

Today’s Gospel reading tells a well-known story about two sisters, Martha and Mary. This story is often understood as drawing a sharp line between those who serve and those who listen, with the suggestion that the listener holds a higher place. But if we look more closely, we see that this story is not really about choosing one way over the other. It does not say that working hard is wrong or that listening is always better. Rather, it helps us understand the importance of recognizing what matters in each moment and focusing on one thing at a time. When Jesus came to their home, Mary chose to sit and listen to him. She wanted to know more about him. She was excited to hear about what he had done and what he was going to say, so she gave him her full attention. Meanwhile, Martha chose to work and serve. Message: Hopeful Waiting / Isaiah 64:7-9 & 1 Corinthians 1:3-9

Today is the first Sunday of Advent. Advent comes from the Latin word "adventus," which means "coming" or "arrival." It is a time of waiting for Christ, who is coming to us. Advent lasts for four weeks before Christmas. Each Sunday during this season, we light one of the four candles on the Advent Wreath, and on Christmas Eve, we light the Christ candle. The wreath, made of evergreen branches, symbolizes eternal life through Christ, and the candles represent hope, peace, joy, and love. On this first Sunday of Advent, we are going to reflect on the meaning of "hopeful waiting" through the words of the Apostle Paul and the prophet Isaiah. The second scripture reading today is the opening of Paul's letter to the congregation in Corinth. Paul wishes them grace and peace from God and Christ.
