Opening Prayer (Unison)

God of all nations, we thank you for the life and history of our country, for its vast beauty, its wilderness, and wealth of forest, mine, and sea on this 157th anniversary of Canada’s confederation. We praise you for its people, the people whose ancestors have been here for thousands of years, and those who have just arrived. We thank you for the variety of our traditions and our cultures, the riches of our spiritual and religious heritage, the strength of our democratic institutions. Be with us during this time of worship, O God, that we may face the future with confident hope and faith in your purpose for our world. Amen.

Prayer of Confessional and Renewal (Unison)

God who seeks us in our hiding places, calling out, “Where are you?” God who seeks us beneath the covering of our guilt, calling out, “Who are you?” God who seeks us behind our many masks, calling out, “Who made you?” God whose call penetrates our fear, find us, love us, forgive us. (a time of silent confession) Amen.

Words of Assurance

All: while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

One: So, with confidence, we say:

All: in God’s great mercy, receive forgiveness for our sin. Thanks be to God!

*Offering

*Offertory Hymn (Tune: #374VU)

Acts of kindness, times for sharing; bringing Christ to human need.

Caring for the least among us; simple actions plant the seed.

By our giving and forgiving, work a miracle of love.

Holy presence to us offered; Praise the One who reigns above.

*Offertory Prayer (Unison)

For the dawning of each new day and all its possibilities, the gifts of each season, the song of bird and rush of wind, the love of those we treasure, the food that nourishes us and the water that sustains, we thank you, Gracious God. We commit our gifts and ourselves in service to you that your Word may be alive and at work in the world. Loving God, we pray in the name of your Living Word, your Son, Jesus. Amen.
