  All: let the brilliance of our Creator God’s love guide us to see God’s way for us.

  All: let the melody of God’s love sung through Jesus help us to receive God’s word for us.

One: Like granite running jagged through the hills, or creeks flowing from source to sea,

  All: let the presence of God’s Sprit ground us so we may know God’s strength within us.

On this Trinity Sunday, we come before you, Holy God, to offer our praise and adoration. You are God, the Creator, giving us richly all things to enjoy. You are Christ, the Saviour of the world, Word made flesh to set us free. You are the Spirit of truth and love, willing to dwell in us. You are holy and blessed. One God, Eternal Trinity, be near to us, the people formed in your image, and be close to the world your love brings to life. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Ever-living God, we do give you thanks and praise for you are majestic in holiness, yet ever near, a worker of wonders, yet plain in your presence. In the beginning you created the universe. You made the sun and stars above our heads, and the earth beneath our feet. Your word brought forth the rocks and streams, the surging seas and the wild winds. You fashioned life in all its myriad forms, and shaped from clay the wonder of the human frame. You spoke your word to your people through prophets and priests, men and women of compassion and courage. You never forsake us, even though we turn away from you. You came in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to live and love this life in all its fullness—only to be shunned, despised, and forsaken. You made the cross of death a tree of life, the empty grave a sign of glorious hope. Therefore, with all your people, and with the whole company of heaven and all creation, we sing your praise:

Have you ever smelled something and, all of a sudden, it reminded you of a special memory? Maybe it was the smell of cookies baking, and it made you think of your grandmother’s kitchen. Today is Pentecost Sunday. This is the day we remember when the earliest followers of Jesus were filled with the Holy Spirit and the Church came into being. It is the day when a new community of faith was born through the breath of God. It is a day full of mystery, courage, and hope. According to the book of Acts, on the 40th day after the resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven. Before he left, he told his followers not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of God.
